Media concerns and challanges in Kunduz
Kunduz Mediothek in collaboration with UNAMA and AIHRC conducted a meeting to discuss the needs and problems of journalists in Kunduz province. The meeting took place on Sunday 28 Februay in Mediothek Media House. In addition to people from Mediothek, Claude Kalonji human rights officer of UNAMA, Shamsudding Hamidi media officer of UNAMA, Abdullah Arsari representative of AIHRC in Kunduz, 16 journalists who are mostly representing major media in the province took part in this meeting.

Abdullah Rasuly welcomed the participants and described the agenda of the meeting. After him, Claude spoke and pointed that this meeting is facilitating an important occasion to discuss the main concerns and challenges of the journalists in the area.

The meeting focused on the following two subjects:
•    The main concerns and challenges of the journalists in Kunduz,
•    Arranging a workshop on the legal aspects of journalism,

The journalists pointed out the following points as main challenge and concerns:
-    Journalists have problem with the governmental departments and security institutions in particular behave improperly towards journalists,
-    Journalists are threatened and intimidated. (journalists gave many examples)
-    Security threats and the problem media is facing by insurgents,
-    The lack of a mobilized journalistic association which can bring the journalists together,
-    The lack government and the respective organizations support from journalists and the freedom of speech.
